Statement of Faith & Resolutions
Doctrinal Statement
of the WISCONSIN FELLOWSHIP OF BAPTIST CHURCHES
Section 1.
The purpose of the Fellowship shall be to provide fellowship among Baptist Churches of Wisconsin who are in full agreement with the doctrinal statement as set forth in Article II, Section 2, and to inspire and stimulate fellowshiping churches in the advancement of the cause of Christ through evangelistic and missionary endeavors.
Section 2. We adopt the following Doctrinal Statement:
The Fellowship receives the Scriptures as the inspired Word of God, and as the sole authority in matters of faith and practice. Its understanding of Christian truth as therein contained is expressed by the following declaration of faith:
1. We believe that the Bible is God's Word, that it was. written by men Divinely inspired and that it is the supreme infallible authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
2. We believe in God the Father, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power. We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all that come to Him through Jesus Christ.
3. We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal and only begotten Son of God, conceived of the Holy Spirit, of virgin birth, sinless in His life, making atonement for the sin of the world by Ms death. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension, pretribulational return for the saint and visible premillennial return to the world according to His promise.
4. We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from God to convince the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and comfort those who believe in Jesus Christ.
5. We believe that all men by nature and by choice are sinners but that "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life;" we believe, therefore, that those who accept Christ as Lord and Saviour will rejoice forever in God's presence and those who refuse to accept Christ as Lord and Saviour will be forever separated from God.
6. We believe in the Church - a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and of which all regenerated people are members. We believe that a local church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ, immersed on a credible confession of faith, and associated for worship, work and fellowship. We believe that to those local churches were comn-dtted, for perpetual observance, the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's supper, and that God has laid upon these churches the task of proclaiming to a lost world the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Saviour, and the enthroning of Him as Lord and Master. We believe that all human betterment and social improvements are the inevitable by products of such Gospel.
7. We believe that every human being is responsible to God alone in all matters of faith, that each church is independent and autonomous and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority that therefore Church and State must be kept separate as having different functions, each fulfilling its duties free from the dictation or patronage of the other.
57th Annual Meeting Resolutions
Wisconsin Fellowship of Baptist Churches September 17-18, 2007
1.Appreciation
A.To the Church: Whereas Greendale Baptist Church has gone to great effort to extend a warm welcome to the churches of our fellowship for our 57th Annual Meeting and we have been most graciously hosted;
BE IT RESOLVED that we as messengers attending the meeting express our gratitude to Pastor Mosier, his staff, and the people of the church for their hospitality.
B.To the Speaker: Whereas Dr. Rick Flanders has sacrificially given of his time to prepare for these meetings and minister the Word of God to those in attendance;
BE IT RESOLVED that we communicate our sincere appreciation for his willingness to come, and to his church, Juniata Baptist, of Vassar, MI, for sharing him with us.
C.To our State Mission Director: Whereas Dr. Wayne Vawter has faithfully served our fellowship for another year, fulfilling our vision for evangelism, church planting, and the encouragement of believers; and whereas Mrs. Carole Vawter has continued to be a diligent worker on behalf of the fellowship and a blessing to her husband and our churches;
BE IT RESOLVED that we acknowledge the faithful service of the Vawters, and express our gratitude for their availability to be used of the Lord in our lives.
2.Doctrinal Resolutions
A.Holiness: Whereas there is a great growing pressure for the churches to become more like the world and less like its Savior, and whereas the church and the family are being bombarded and infected with worldly music and standards of dress;
BE IT RESOLVED that the messengers of the WFBC strongly encourage reflection on biblical personal and ecclesiastical separation, and bold action where the Scripture and the Holy Spirit point to its necessity.
B.Evangelism: Whereas we are commanded by Scripture to be diligent and self-sacrificing in our efforts to reach the lost; whereas the indications of the times point to the soon return of Jesus Christ, at which time it will be too late for countless souls; and whereas a great many churches are discouraged or lacking in creative or concerted evangelistic efforts;
BE IT RESOLVED that we exhort one another and pray for one another in the area of personal and corporate evangelism, and that we renew our efforts to reach our communities for Christ through Scriptural methods of personal evangelism and evangelistic preaching from our pulpits.
C.Sufficiency of the Scripture: Whereas the attack on the Bible and the church is constant but ever changing, and new forms of old errors are cropping up in postmodernism and the “Emerging Church” movement, and whereas man is sorely tempted to fall to pride and intellectualism even though he is totally depraved;
BE IT RESOLVED that the WFBC remains committed to biblical definitions of the church, and the sufficiency of the Scripture itself as our only rule of faith and practice, and that we repudiate worldly practices of appealing to man’s pride or his flesh for the promotion of the church.
D.The Sovereignty of God: Whereas modern theologians have questioned God’s complete knowledge and control of world events under the name of “Openness Theology,” and as this trend is enticing due to its intellectualism and appeal to human compassion;
BE IT RESOLVED that our fellowship continues to recognize that the Scripture teaches the sovereignty of God, including His knowledge of and ability to orchestrate all human and natural events; we furthermore affirm that this knowledge and power in no way makes the Lord responsible for the evil acts of man (Proverbs 16:4), and that “natural” disasters inevitably carry out God’s higher purposes (Ephesians 1:11,12).
3.Societal Resolutions
A.Sanctity of Life: Whereas we believe that man was created in the image of God, thus granting sanctity to all human life, and whereas the values of those who show a disregard for the life of the unborn, the disabled, and the elderly, are unbiblical and worldly; and whereas there is a great temptation among men of science to become creators of life at the expense of the lives of the unborn;
BE IT RESOLVED that we stand opposed to all practices which violate the sanctity of life such as abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, and human cloning.
B.Voting for Virtue: Whereas primary elections are approaching in a few months, and several candidates hold compromising and conflicting views regarding the sanctity of human life, and the government’s responsibility to protect life, and whereas the Lord has placed us in this great country and given us the freedom and ability to impact our government;
BE IT RESOLVED that the messengers of this meeting will pray for the upcoming elections and will encourage others within our churches to pray and to exercise their voting privilege faithfully and with careful consideration of the issues. (Romans 12:18, Romans 13:1-8).
C.Support for Soldiers: Whereas there are young men and women from our country and our churches in military service, and some in perilous situations around the world, and whereas we appreciate their sacrifices and willingness to protect our freedom;
BE IT RESOLVED that we will pray for our troops, support them in tangible ways as we have opportunity, and encourage them to make their field of service a harvest field for the Kingdom of God.
