MEMORIAL SERVICE — MONDAY OCT 8TH — 6:30 PM — VISITATION 4-6:30
BAY CITY BAPTIST CHURCH, 1840 BOND ST., GREEN BAY — 920 499-5561
The fundamental Baptist churches of Wisconsin have a great debt to a humble man named Grant Rice. Friday morning October 5th Brother Rice passed into the Lord’s presence. During the years that he lived in Wisconsin his passion was church planting. He was involved in the starting of almost 30 churches here in Wisconsin and was the inspiration and support for church plants all over the world. His book “A Church Planting Primer” has been a source of information for hundreds of potential church planters who have used its information and inspiration for their own ministries.
This past summer my wife and I with our son, his wife and her parents spend a night at the “Rice Motel.” Grant and Charlene made their home and open place of Christian workers to come for a relaxing time to get away in Door County. We had a wonderful time of fellowship with the Rices. However, Brother Rice called me down to his office for over an hour and asked about the current church planting efforts that were ongoing in Wisconsin. He asked pointed details and wanted to know everything about these works. It was clear to me once again that his passion was the Great Commission through church planting.
Years ago when I took the pastoral ministry at Rock Lake Baptist Church in Lake Mills, Brother Rice called me on my first Sunday morning as I was preparing my heart in the pastor’s study. He wished me the best for my ministry there and prayed for me and assured me that he would continue to uphold me in prayer. I am sure that a part of the blessing of my 15 year ministry in Lake Mills was due to his prayers in my behalf.
If you were to meet Pastor Grant Rice and not know who he was, you might think that he was a kindly, older gentlemen with a twinkle in his eye. However, you would not be with him long before he would mention Jesus Christ and his life ministry of church planting.
Pray for his dear wife Charlene as she will miss her husband and for Brother Rice’s four children. The memorial service will be held at Bay City Baptist Church in Green Bay on Monday October 8th at 6:30 PM. Visitation will precede the service 4-6:30 PM. A second memorial service and the burial will take place in Murfreesboro, TN at Franklin Rd. Baptist Church on Saturday October 13th.
Brother Rice, we love you and we will miss you in Wisconsin!
