Ordination Sunday in Elkhorn

Sunday July 1st Emmanuel Baptist Church ordained their new pastor. Paul Vawter is the pastor of this local church ministry, having begun his new ministry in September of 2011.

I taught Sunday School with a challenge to the pastor and church family. Carole and I sang a special music duet with Pastor Paul Vawter preaching for the AM Service. Following the service the church provided a delicious carry-in dinner for all who were present.

The Ordination Service took place at 2:00 PM. Dr. Terry Price, the local church representative for Maranatha College (and Pastor Paul’s football coach) opened the service with prayer. Following a special music duet by Pastor Paul’s brother, David and his daughter, Hallie; Pastor Steve Hollenbeck brought the ordination message with a charge to the Emmanuel Baptist Church congregation and Pastor Vawter. I gave the ordination prayer with the laying on of hands along with Dr. Price, pastors: Steve Hollenbeck, Dan Stertz, Jeremiah Griffin (the pastor’s cousin) and deacon, Ryan Paschke. There was a cake reception following the service.

A number of churches were represented at the Ordination Council held on the preceding Friday June 29th at Emmanuel at 10:00 AM. Pastors present included: Rhon Roberts (Mukwonago), Phil Ace (Butler), Steve Hollenbeck with Ray Raez (Delavan), Rod Anderson (Fort Atkinson), Jeremiah Griffin (Living Stones Ministry), Jon Jameson with church member, Alvin (Kenosha-Northport) with me representing Calvary Baptist in Watertown. Pastor Paul’s brother David, who is an active member of First Baptist Church of Lake Orion, MI, served as the council clerk and I served as moderator. The council recommended that the church proceed with ordination after a two-hour examination of the candidate’s testimony and beliefs, as well as commending the candidate’s presentation as well prepared and mature. Following the council the church served a lunch for the council members.
