First Baptist Church of Hartford celebrated their 50th anniversary on September 22, 2013. Pastor Mike and Carole Gordon have been serving at First Baptist Church for forty of those fifty years. Pastor Jack Kaetterhenry grew up at First Baptst Church and presented a humorous look at the past entitled, A Child’s View of First Baptist Church . Pastor Gordon preached for the morning service following wonderful special music by the church choir and men’s ensemble. First Baptist members provided a delicious buffet, with serving lines in the fellowship hall and an outdoor tent. The autumn weather was beautiful and visitors and members alike enjoyed time for fellowship and remeniscence.
In the afternoon, Dr. Wayne Vawter preached a message on “The Model Church.” Pastor Gordon shared written greetings from some who were unable to be present, including Pastor George Cable. Pastor Cable was the WFBC Mission Director 50 years ago, and was instrumental in the founding of the church. Pastor and Mrs. Bob Johnson, who served the church during the first ten years, were honored with a plaque and gifts. Former and current deacons were recognized and given gifts as well. A reception followed the afternoon service.
It was a wonderful day of celebration to the honor of our blessed Lord. First Baptist Church is an example of the fruit of WFBC church planting over the past sixty years. They have sacrificially supported many other WFBC church plants through the years, and we thank God for the fruit that abounds to their account.
